How to deal with their first period at summer camp
Being away all summer can be scary enough, and as a preteen or teenage girl, getting their first period while they'r away is a serious worry. They may not be surrounded by the people they're most comfortable with, and that makes a visit from Aunt Flo feel daunting. Don’t worry, we’re here to help them deal with that potential ‘Oh-No’ moment so you both can enjoy their time at summer at camp free from the stress and horror stories.
Preparing your tween or teen to speak with their counselors
They may be nervous to tell their camp counselors or fellow campers because they're worried they’ll think it’s gross and embarrassing! They should know that periods happen, and their counselors will be understanding. It's likely their counselors will be pros on the topic anyway if they have a period themselves.
Assure them that the counselors will help them clean up any unwanted leakage and make sure that they get the pads, tampons, or anything else they may need if they didn’t pack a pair of Kts. The camp counselors are there to help; they shouldn't be scared to pull them aside and ask for help.
How to clean stained sheets
To avoid stained sheets, KT Sleepover Shorts are the way to go. There's an extra long absorbent pad, so they're covered no matter how much they toss and turn.
But, accidents happen! To clean fresh period stains, spot-treat with soap and water and toss it in the washing machine, if they have one available. Otherwise, dish soap and water should do the trick! To get out old period stains, make a DIY stain remover using baking soda and water. For more info on what to pack for cleaning period stains, check out our blog post here.
Swimming lessons on their period
Check out a more in depth post about swimming on your period here. It'll give you the best tips on how your teen can tackle the lake or pool on their period! Or cut straight to the solution: Leakproof period swimwear for teens! Yes, it does exist!
But here’s the most important thing: if they don’t want to go in the water because they're on their period, they shouldn't! No one can force them into the water. They can talk to their swim instructor or one of the counselors they're most comfortable with.
Hope this helps! Get packing! And make sure to pack your teen's Kt period underwear and swimwear to save them from the those ‘Oh-No’ moments.
